Fits and Starts is a self produced dance film that explores the sensations of isolation and the idea of "unproductiveness" in capitalistic society. This is McGarey's first dance film. Fits and Starts was first screened at the 2020 Strangelove Film Festival and won the award for Best Dance Film. Rubberneck, an evening length dance experience, observes and comments on our humanity, grappling with the understanding of both our insignificance within the universe and the magnitude of impact our habits have on each other and the environment. Bringing body language, symbolic gesture, and unspoken social cues to the forefront of this narrative, McGarey considers our evolution towards automation, the symbolism our bodies hold, and the ways our individual movements echo throughout humanity to construct the future of our existence. Expiration Date explores connections and endings in life. What does it mean to be part of a community and how can you find individuality through these associations? Through this work I question how our interactions shape others and the world around us and the impact we can leave in our wake. Expiration Date premiered in Boulder, Colorado on December 7, 2018.
